About Bagshaws

A multi-disciplined firm of Chartered Surveyors with experienced Auctioneers, Estate Agents, Valuers and Land Agents.

Bagshaws have four regional offices covering Staffordshire, Derbyshire and the surrounding area. Established in 1871 offering a comprehensive range of property & professional services with a varied client base ranging from Local Authorities & Utilities to individual landowners and occupiers.

We are passionate about auctions and have been selling land and properties at public auctions since our company was established in 1871.

There are a number of benefits to buying or selling this way and with a little bit of prior research and preparation, auctions can be quick and cost effective for both parties. Due to the changes made to the Money Laundering Regulations, we are now required by law to verify the identity and address of everyone who offers, bids or buys at our auction. An auction registration form can be found below. To sell your property or land at auction, it will be valued by one of our experts and both an auction guide price and reserve price agreed upon. A small fee is charged to include your lot in the listings, (which is payable only when your property sells), and upon completion you will be charged a pre-agreed commission rate. We will coordinate contract packs and conditions of sale documents, in conjunction with your chosen solicitor, as these documents need to be available to interested parties prior to the auction. From a buyer’s perspective, we also make the process as straight forward as possible. Unlike other agents, we do not require interested parties to register.

At the fall of the hammer, a member of our team will approach the successful bidder and immediately after the auction, and once proof of identification has been provided, the buyer will be expected to sign a legally binding Contract and pay a 10% deposit. A buyer's fee of £200 plus VAT (£240 inc. VAT) will be charged per auction lot. If one property is offered in more than one lot, the fee will be chargeable on all lots whether or not one purchaser buys all. Completion would normally then occur 28 days later unless specified otherwise. It’s as easy as that! If you think your property might be suitable for auction or if you would like some free, confidential advice about the buying process, please contact a member of our team.

Machinery & Dispersal Sales

Headed by Mark Elliott, the specialist Machinery dispersal sale team provides an unrivalled “hands on” service. We cover a wide geographical area; from Yorkshire through the Midlands to Warwickshire, with purchasers from all over the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe. In addition to the specialist on-site farm machinery dispersals, the team also undertake large collective sales throughout Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. These very popular events can feature in excess of 2,500 lots at peak times. We have expertise in the marketing of vintage and classic agricultural items as well as commercial vehicles and cars. A complete service is provided including initial cataloguing, arranging adverts, full in-house photography, catalogue setting, on-site arrangements, pre-sale preparation, the auction day itself and any follow up activity.

The team will travel any distance and has excellent back up resources including four mobile offices with on-site computer systems, signage etc. to cover all eventualities. Every detail is taken care of to ensure that there is minimal disruption at what can be a sensitive time for our clients. In order for a machinery sale to be successful, it must attract buyers. We utilise our enormous database of past customers, registered interested parties and sector contacts to pinpoint potential customers. We use a combination of direct mail and emarketing activity to provide these customers with catalogues, specific item details and reminder messages about the forthcoming event. To find out more, or for an informal and confidential chat, please contact Mark Elliott.
