In early 1993, Bill Kimmitt and Les Roberts were employed by a national estate agency chain, Bill as an area manager and Les as an area financial services manager. Both were frustrated working for a corporate organisation which seemed to undervalue their staff and clients as pawns in a huge financial game. The valuing, selling, surveying and financing of homes had become a faceless and emotionless transaction, playing second fiddle to the promotion of the corporate brand. Their answer was as drastic as it was unique. Kimmitt and Roberts opened its doors on the 1st October 1993. Bill and Les acquired the business of David Shaw, a long established chartered surveyor with branches in Church Street, Seaham and Woods Terrace, Murton. They rebranded and imposed their own personalities and professional ethos into the operation. They set up an estate agency, surveying, and financial services practice, providing a style of personal service which was missing in their previous employment. From those early days, the network quickly expanded. Opening branches in Houghton le Spring, Peterlee and Ryhope, the estate agency operation quickly evolved into one of the regions major players. A dedicated survey and valuation department was set up in Houghton, and a separate mortgage division completes the unique property service. Kimmitt and Roberts are customer orientated.
