We have benefited from the trend in recent years for more important items to be sold outside London, where the costs of sale have rocketed. Jim Railton has been in the antiques trade for over 20 years, based in Northumberland from where he carries out valuations throughout the UK for insurance, probate and for sale. His career has ranged from shipping containers of antiques to the United States, to dismantling buildings to be sold and erected elsewhere. He was appointed regional valuer for Phillips International Fine Art Auctioneers in the early 90's and set up their saleroom in Newcastle in 1993. He has been an independent auctioneer and fine art valuer for several years.
