Since then it has grown to become the premier antique and fine art auction rooms in Surrey, specialising in sales and valuations at its prominent location adjoining the A3 just north of Guildford, 28 miles from London. All lots are auctioned at Ewbank's Guildford saleroom where Chris Ewbank holds specialist sales featuring all areas of fine art and collecting, including antique furniture and works of art, clocks, ceramics and glass, pictures, books, silver and jewellery, 20th century design, collectors' items, Movie, Music, Sporting and Entertainment memorabilia. Free valuation days are held at Ewbank Clarke Gammon Wellers every day between 10am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Excluding sale days. Appointments are not necessary. Chris Ewbank came to Guildford in 1982 and founded Ewbank Fine Art Auctioneers in 1990. In 1994 having initially held auctions at the Hog's Back Hotel, he acquired our present premises the Burnt Common Auction Rooms. It is a very prominent out of town location just off the A3 with acres of parking, ten minutes away from junction 10 of the M25 and about 4 miles from Guildford; Woking main line station is 4 miles with frequent train services to Waterloo (25 minutes). It is an ideal location for our business. As a family run firm with the highest ethical standards we are dedicated to giving clients and buyers an efficient and friendly service. We have always tried to maintain the highest standards, adhering to the principles of probity and ethics of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and the Society of Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers, of which we are Members. Most of our new clients come to us on recommendation, from professional advisers or existing clients and as the costs of selling by auction in Central London have rocketed we have benefited from the general trend in recent years for more important items to be sold outside the capital. This was illustrated in 2007 when we sold the Robertson Collection of items from the Studio of Francis Bacon. The sale created enormous worldwide interest and achieved a total of over £1M. Catalogues are produced and circulated to prospective purchasers by post and E-mail. Digital illustrations of all lots in our quarterly Antique, Fine Art auctions and our Interiors auctions are posted on this site, which receives approximately 1,000,000 page visits per annum. Chris Ewbank has taken a very active part in the leadership of the profession within the UK. He has been a member of the Fine Arts Advisory Panel of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and is past Chairman of its Art and Antiques Professional Group. He is also an elected Member of its International Governing Council ( the highest decision making body in the Institution). He joined the Committee of the Society of Fine Art Auctioneers & Valuers in 1994, (he first became a member in 1982), and was Chairman from 2000 - 2007. He has also in recent years been on the Executive Committee of the British Art Market Federation and was one of the first to join the new City of London Guild of Arts Scholars, Dealers and Collectors. Chris is also the Founder and Chairman of the Association of Accredited Auctioneers, a collection of over 20 of the most prominent regional auctioneers in the UK who have joined forces to market their services in selling Western Art and Antiques globally and to facilitating sales to Chinese mainland buyers. The Association is holding the first auction of Western Art in mainland China in 2013 in association with Epailive and Huachen Auctions. We maintain very close links with the estate agents Clarke Gammon Wellers who are dedicated to providing a complete property service to all clients meaning we are now able to offer executors a complete property and contents valuation and disposal service, based on the CGW network of offices and the Burnt Common Auction Rooms.
