About Laidlaw Auctioneers and Valuers

Laidlaw Auctioneers & Valuers are a refreshing antidote to the often stale traditionalism of the auction world. We are evangelical in our belief that auctions offer the most exciting of shopping experiences, with all the drama of the theatre combined with the thrill of a day at the races. We are one of the few auction houses to offer weekend specialist auctions, opening up these events to the widest possible audience. Our auctions offer an exceptional route to market for prospective sellers. We market clients' property with passion and enthusiasm, being totally committed to achieving excellent results. In the interests of securing the best possible prices for our clients we employ youthful talent to fully exploit the Internet. At the same time we take great pride in our auctioneering heritage, producing precise traditional catalogues supported by professional photography. Headhunted in 2002, Paul joined H&H Auction Rooms where he worked as an Auctioneer and Valuer, taking over the running of the saleroom until the end of 2012. It was during this period that Paul began to make regular television appearances as an expert on BBC's 'Bargain Hunt' and the extremely popular 'Antiques Road Trip'. In both instances earning an enviable reputation for conviviality, true specialist expertise, and strong results at auction. In 2013 Paul took the plunge and lay the foundations for his own saleroom in the heart of Carlisle, Cumbria. Laidlaw Auctioneers and Valuers opened its doors to the public in early 2014, and is made up of a small team of antiques experts who share Paul's vision for a more vibrant and youthful auction experience. While the breadth of Paul’s expertise has been amply demonstrated during his on-screen appearances, his exceptional expertise in the field of antique arms and militaria is well known. Popular interest in this field continues to grow. This phenomenon is being fuelled in some part by historical anniversaries such as the outbreak of the First World War to be remembered this year, to the bi-centenary of the Battle of Waterloo which will occur in 2015. Auctioneers throughout the country are vying to handle medals and militaria, though few possess the genuine expertise of Paul Laidlaw, and fewer still his passion and enthusiasm. Should you be looking to sell medals, arms or militaria, including swords, knives, daggers and bayonets, pistols, rifles or other guns, military uniforms, helmets or head dress, badges or insignia, don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss how we can help you secure the highest possible prices.
