Director Steve Harris is a lifelong enthusiast with a background in broadcasting, who has a commitment to providing a professional, friendly service to other enthusiasts. Situated in Hawarden, close to Chester (U.K.), 'On The Air' has been supplying vintage radios, televisions, gramophones and telephones for over ten years. Customers range from private collectors to museums, exhibitions and film and television companies including the BBC and Granada LWT. Collectors world-wide have turned to 'On The Air' as their first source of European vintage technology, and many more have purchased items locally from dealers who receive regular shipments of quality pieces. In addition to the shop,The Broadcasting Museum was set up in 1994 to complement the Vintage Sound Shop. It represented the culmination of nearly 20 years of Steve's collecting and research. It incorporated an extensive collection of radio and television artefacts, displayed in period settings with interactive audio-visual displays. Over 25,000 people from all over the world visited the museum, which received many accolades from visitors and professionals alike. Due to the end of the lease on the building, the museum had to close in 2000, but the collection was bought by the BBC with the intention of using it as the nucleus of a national collection.
