Area description

CYPRUS Known as one island with a multitude of options, Cyprus is a villa holiday destination of great beauty and endless variety. Golden, sandy beaches and rugged coastlines meet forest-clad mountains and hills, while old traditional villages with atmospheric winding streets are contrasted by neatly terraced vineyards and olive groves. A carefree place for year round holidays and once home to the goddess Aphrodite, Cyprus has a sense of timelessness magnified by the charm, kindness and natural hospitality of its native people.

PAPHOS Paphos is the smallest of 4 cities of the island, with a population reaching just 30,000. This is a 35 minute drive from the villas.Paphos has many attractions which make it popular, among which are its ancient mosaic floors, its beautiful old harbour, its modern hotels, bars and restaurants, situated along the seaside. You can also visit the archaeological museum, the Byzantine castle of Paphos, the Tombs of the Kings, St. Paul’s Pillar and the Temple of Aphrodite. Holidays to Paphos are like holidays to paradise and especially for those who love history. Many people are familiar with the Greek Goddess Aphrodite and it was on the Paphos shoreline that her legend was born. Remnants of this legend can still be seen today in a number of features including The Venus Rock and the Baths of Aphrodite. Some of the amazing places to see whilst on holidays in Paphos include Paphos Medieval Fort which is located at the harbor, Petra Tou Romiou which is the birthplace of Aphrodite and located at Latchi. The Tombs of the Kings which are spread out over a vast area and are underground tombs that date back to the 4th Century BC. There are also a number of churches and museums to visit too. Holidays to Paphos will never be boring either. Besides the usual attractions, there are so many museums, caves, and tombs to explore not to mention local art, vineyards, banana plantations, and much more. You can also relax on the beach and enjoy the magnificent weather.

LATCHI & POLIS  The town of Polis, part of the Paphos district and found in the Chrysochou area, is fast becoming a desired tourist destination. With its paved streets, is the central town square which is surrounded by local restaurants and tavernas. There is a harmonized blend of peace and relaxation which promotes the laid back, relaxed lifestyle enjoyed by many. The delightful Polis Square is just a 10 minute drive from your Cyprus villa Unlike other crowded towns, Polis still remains traditional and has ensured nature was not destroyed through over-development. Walking, hiking and cycling are possible as there are adventurous nature paths to explore on the Akamas Peninsula. The surrounding areas, boast rich flora and fauna and strong mythological links with the goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite. The recently opened archaeological museum and the fascinating, ancient church of Ayios Andronikos are regularly visited places by tourists and locals. The beaches along the Chrysochou (meaning golden) Bay, with its crystal clear waters have received international recognition. The sunny climate compliments the variety of water sports provided. These sports include sailing, water skiing, parasailing, diving excursions, renting jet skies or speed boats and much more. For a more relaxed and respected sport, golf at Tsada Golf Course is only 25 minutes from the town.

ABOUT POLIS When its comes to enjoying a place because it offers so many different things to do and see, it seems that Cyprus once again comes out tops. Whether you want to kick back and relax, take in inspiring historical sights or get involved in some action on your holiday, you need to look no further. There is one region in particular which seems to be gathering a reputation as the latest place to offer everything under one sky. The Polis region, which encompasses the northwest region of Cyprus, about 30 minutes drive from the popular Paphos resort area and 45 minutes from Paphos International Airport, is one of those places which holds a quiet sort of attraction to all those who visit it. The main feature of Polis is the village square boasting cobbled streets, souvenir shops, banks, jewellers, chemists, coffee shops and bars with locally made wines available. From being one of the closest developed areas to the magnificent Akamas Peninsula, to offering the freshest fish meze (famous island wide) to some amazing aquatic attractions with its pristine beaches and sparkling waters, Polis is no longer the poorer cousin of Paphos. Instead, it gives you the chance to enjoy Cyprus as those who are lucky enough to live there do. Of course, with Polis being a coastal town, you would be correct in assuming that there are beautiful beaches in the area. In fact the whole of the area is surrounded with beaches. While most are of fine pebbles, it is worth every single step to get into the water. It’s as clear and clean as possible while the area even offers a beach-side camping site. There can be fewer purer pleasures than waking up and walking two steps from your bed to take your morning swim in sparkling waters. And when it comes to enjoying local fresh food, you just have to visit one of the taverns on the Polis square. All the fish is freshly caught and one of the best gastronomic experiences has to be enjoying a leisurely fish meze, accompanied by a bottle of crisp white wine. Your meal is perfectly rounded off with a plate of fruit which is brought as dessert; more often than not it is picked fresh off the trees in the neighbouring fields. As an area, Polis is beautiful. Whatever you want to do, from lazing around the beach, to enjoying the thrill of water sports or just taking in nature with a leisurely forest walk, Polis has it for you.

ABOUT LATCHI Visit Latchi harbour, take a stroll along the marina, sample some freshly caught fish in one of the tavernas and just watch the world go by… The popular fishing town of Latchi, with its new Marina, is only 3km from Polis. Over recent years the developers have joined forces in a unique coalition to preserve the unique quality of this exquisite corner of Cyprus. The plan was drawn up a number of years ago and it was agreed that only the ‘very best’ and exclusive building with large plots would be erected. Planning laws restrict the height, style and density of any new build. With a new sandy beach, the break waters, the development of the marina, the planned signature golf courses, not to mention the multi-million euro villas, this area really is set to take on the traditional European retreats.

Wander along the harbour, crammed full of brightly-painted fishing boats and tuck into Cypriot specialties at a waterfront taverna. The local fishing boats guarantee fresh seafood daily and the fish restaurants are known to be the best in Cyprus. Latchi harbour is always full of life and the restaurants along the side enjoy the beautiful sea view. Apart from the many water sports available you can hire a boat and cruise around the crystalline coast line. The waters are a vibrant blue, the sand is pure white and the marine life is abundant. Following the coastline you can travel past some of the world’s best hotels, the Elysium and the Anassa. The Anassa beaches are just a few hundred yards peaceful walk from Villa 8 Aphrodite It’s a great trip to pull out your snorkel and goggles and explore the waters of the Blue Lagoon or laze in the sun on the boat and top up your tan. A fish meze and a carafe of local wine is the perfect end to the day. Paphos is currently a 30 minutes drive away, yet Polis and Latchi have all the essentials needed, like hospitals, schools, post offices, many mini-markets, fashionable clothing stores and much more. Dotted with citrus groves and overlooking turquoise seas, you can find all types of property from townhouses to luxury villas to old stone houses, and only a short distance from the beach. Latchi is fast becoming the European destination of the rich and famous wising to get away from the crowds – once there you’ll see why! Latchi is a lovely fishing village situated on the North West Coast of the island.

This is only 5 minutes drive, 15 minutes walk or 30 minute stroll along the beachfront from the villa! The main point of Latchi is the fishing harbour sporting fishing boats bobbing gently on the clear waters weighed down with nets, wicker baskets and the catch of the day. Fresh fish can be sampled in one of the many small stone build traditional restaurants / taverns surrounding the harbour. This is one of the favourite areas for the locals to have some fresh fish. Quiet bars and cafes can also be found at the harbour for a refreshing drink during the hot day. In the evening take a stroll along the boulevard and sip a delicious cocktail whilst lounging in candle-light on the beach! Latchi bars are rare in that they actually set out their loungers and gazebos on the sand … this just has to be one of the top 20 things to do in your life! There are also some supermarkets and souvenir shops from where you can buy anything that you need to use at the villa. The sandy/pebbly beaches nestling on the Akamas National Park are some of the best and cleanest in the island, with cool waters and gentle summer breezes. Several daily cruises take place from the harbour towards Akamas National Park. A number of excursions are available, leaving the harbour at 10:30am and returning at 3:30pm, having a tour by the coast of Akamas, a couple of hours to swim at a the crystal clear waters of Fontana Amoroza, providing you a generous BBQ meal and desert.

If you are keen on water sports, you will be pleased to know that you are able to do scuba diving, boat parachute, wind surfing, canoeing, drive jet skies and speedboats. If you enjoy walking then you are definitely going to enjoy the many nature paths available in the area including the trail of the ancient Greek Gods Aphrodite and Adonis. The baths of Aphrodite is one of the locations that you can drive within 10 minutes from the villas. This is where Legend has it that Aphrodite bathed with her lover Adonis. They say if you bath in the waters at the baths of Aphrodite you will be blessed with the secret to eternal youth and beauty! The scenery during the spring term is breath taking with many wild flowers, orange and lemon blossom, wild lavender, basil and poppy fields and many other colours and smells causing an amazing sensation.

Cultivated vineyards cover a large percentage of the country’s hilly and mountainous land, from sea level up to 1,500 metres, predominantly on the southern slopes of the Troodos in the Lemesos district and the south western in the Paphos district. There are several wine tours that centre on these areas, which could range from a half-day to a week long!
